As some might know the religious holiday of Ramadan is starting very soon.
For the few that don't know the concept of Ramadan, it involves not eating or drinking anything between sunrise and sunset for the next 30 days. Before sunrise and after sunset we can eat pretty much anything we want.

I am currently 200lbs, 5"11....I would like to attempt to drop 20lbs in that whole month if possible. If not then as much weight as I can.

I've been weightlifting for about 2 years, so I got a few muscles already.
But its the exessive fat that I would like to lose especially in the legs and mid-section.

Now I've heard about the body going into "Starvation Mode". Which, during fasting will burn your muscle instead of Fat. So obviously throughout my fast i'll be in this mode.

How do I loss as much fat as possible while minimizing my muscle loss?

What kind of excerise should I do (Light Weights/High Reps, Heavy
Weights/Low Reps)?

Do I do any form of Cardo? If so when do i do it?

What kind of meal plan should I aim for? Low Carb? Low Fat?

What do I eat before sunrise? Anything?

Any other information?

Thanks for your help in advance.

It is....WOw I got a beating with this post. I am as spiritual and relgious as any person fasting. I definitely don't use fasting as a great way to lose weight. Its a time to strengthen your mind, spirit and faith. On the other hand, I want to lose weight, and Ramadan could assist me on my goal. Its not the reason I am fasting, but since I'm fasting and believing, then why don't
I try to lose that exta pounds as well...

If I don't loss weight then so be it. At least i'll be stronger mentally, physically and spirtually

Yeah But doesn't the body go on Starvation Mode after not eating for a certain amount of time...I think it starts at about 6 hours or so...The Fast lasts for about 14 hours

Muslims aren't permitted to drink anything, even water, during the fasting hours.

Ahmed, my Olympic lifting coach, is Muslim. He always loses 10-15 lbs. during Ramadan without wanting to. But then, he has a very unusual metabolism -- I believe with the help of HGH.

That's not fasting "for 30 days", that's 30 individual fasts over 30 days! :oP If that's how muslums fast then they haven't earned any respect with me.

I lost 20 lbs in a 12 day fast and felt great with lots of energy throughout, however previous fasts I felt pretty darn weak and weard as my body got used to fasting :o/ It's about the 3rd day of consuming water only when the body starts burning fat at a rapid rate or trying desperately to learn how which is what you can expect in your first fasts.

If you want to "fast" (consuming water only) you should keep your activity level below the feeling of intense or sustained fatigue which is the warning sign that your body is canabilizing muscle and internal organs for fuel (instead of fat). The level of activity you can sustain with fatigue depends on several factors including how over weight you are, how accustomed your body has become to fasting and how fast it is currently detoxing. There's a lot to fasting, and you can injure or even kill yourself if done incorrectly, the longer the fast the more dangerous it is. You want to eat only fresh fruit and greens before and especially after a fast. There's a lot of do's and don'ts to it.

The best book on fasting i know is "The Miricle of Fasting" by Bragg and
Bragg (Jack LaLanne was 15 years old when he learned about fasting and nutrition from Paul Brag!)

leaving aside the religious reasons, this hardly counts as a fast. plenty of people don't eat much during the day.
lots of fatties never eat in public. somehow they maintain.

and if you can eat just before sunup and again after sundown, i don't see you losing weight. 100 calorie meals are easy. unless you're working out hard in the day hours, i doubt if you'll make any long-lasting changes. i doubt if you'll make any actually.

during the day, you'll probably feel a bit tired/weak and sit around more. you may even gain.

Well, I'm sure he probably did! LOL! But let's remember: one Muslim does not
1.8 billion make. Just because he does his fasting that way (and I know of a few there that do also) doesn't mean we all do. But like Sam said, this really isn't the place for religion posting and I don't want to get others upset. :o)
