I eat comfort foods every time I have a bit of stress in my life, so as you can imagine, I eat a lot of comfort foods.... Any tips for avoiding this?

You are an emotional eater, like so many of us. What you can do is find ways to calm yourself, meditate, exercise, take a shower, anything that can relax the stress (except food). Sleep enough and exercise to keep your body fit. A balanced body can handle stress better. Don't buy comfort food, don't keep it in your house. Be aware of the emotional triggers that makes you calm yourself with food and see if you can avoid them.
