It was developed about 20 years ago by a French doctor, for athletes who wanted to lose weight without losing muscle mass. On this diet you mainly eat protein diet products offered by the company and vegetable. No carbohydrates. You're supposed to have enough carbs from the vegetables you eat. It's claimed that when you don't give your body carbohydrates it will burn fat and protein, and when you give it enough protein, you lose only fat. People say that you don't feel hungry with this diet.
