Craving has to be the hardest thing people trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, or trying to acclimatize to one have to deal with.
Whether you are craving chocolate, or potato chips, or a big fat juicy steak (obvious by that which one I am craving or have a tendency to) You need to face up to your craving and swish past it, other wise - it could be a lifestyle breaker.
It could be a lifestyle breaker not because of peice of chocolate or a bag of potato chips is the end of all good things, but because, it could lead to other more complex reactions, which could lead to comfort eating and so on..
There are several ways to deal with cravings:
- Allow yourself a treat once a week (or twice, depending on your situation) but try and plan ahead. You can eat whatever you want to eat for that treat, but if you plan ahead, say, you know you are going out for dinner on Tuesday - make Tuesday dinner the time that you have your treat. So if you are craving on Monday you know that you don’t have to wait for ever, and that you will have your well deserved treat on Tuesday.
- If that doesn’t work out, and you slip up, and have your chocolate, or potato chips or big juicy steak - don’t beat yourself up over it.
Just get up, and pick up the good habits again. It does help though, to think about what it was that made you cave in, and how you could productively help yourself to avoid it next time.
