can i drink diet soda on hcg diet. if it doesn't have any calories or fat you would think it iis the came as tea or coffee, well besides carbonation.
I would like to know the answer
Since you can't have aspartame (nutrasweet) you can't have diet soda because they all contain it except Shasta which contains acesulfame - an artificial sweetener that breezed by the FDA with little testing and has a tendency towards serious side effects. The best way around this is to make a quart of lemonade to sip on throughout the day with the juice of one lemon (allowed each day) and stevia natrual sweetener - I use the regular flavor because it doesn't disturb the flavor of the lemon. I love this stuff, yum! Beware of sugar free gum also - almost every brand contains aspartame. The only one I've found that doesn't is Spry that is sweetened with xylitol - the other acceptable sweetener.
How about drinking Zevia?
Hello! Welcome to the forum!
GREAT NEWS! Yes you can have up to two diet sodas on the original Dr. Simeon's protocol. Now some follow modified versions of the original protocol such as the Trudeau method. Trudeau also only allows organic foods and I think even some type of cleansing.
I have personally drank diet sodas without any negative effects.
Thanks Misty! That is good news, Zevia Coke is really good, I save it for my long drive home at night after work, filling and a real treat, appreciate the response.
Glad I could help!
So glad I read this as I was worried about having my "fix" every a.m.!!!
What is Zevia? I have done the hcg and had diet sodas all along. I have lost 57 pounds. The first round of protocol was the best. I went to a homeopathic physican and did the shots. I have gained back, 17 pounds and am now doing the homeopathic drops which don't work as fast on me. But with the cost of the shots having gone way up, it is my only option. One thing that really helped me on an emotional level is he told me things will come up, why you put the weight on, the same with taking the weight off. So good luck to all doing this, it takes true to determination but its really worth it.
Hang in the Earthangel!
While on the HCG diet it is recommended that diet beverages should not be used. "No diet drinks including Crystal Light, diet soda or other diet drinks — only water, teas, coffees, and mineral water. Remember, you get one lemon to use each day". There are some sites that indicate you can drink diet beverages, but what they fail to say is that some of these drinks can actually cause your body to become dehydrated, which is what you want to avoid while on the HCG diet. One thing to remember is that some things may work for one person, but not the other so also consider your own circumstance.
Hi Misty, do you mean 2 diet sodas a day or 2 for the duration?
WOW, check this out! Someone is inventing their own rules! You must be writing or rewriting the definitive book!
Thank you Misty. I have asked this question repeatidly and get answers like "diet soda is not good for ayone". That wasn't my question and you finally answered it. Thank you thank you thank you.........and for all the good gooder now it alls, learn to read.
I am on day 19 and I have lost 19 pounds. My doctor gave me the protocol to follow which has included some different foods (watermelon for example).
I was told it was OK to drink diet drinks as long as it was no more than 2 a day. I have followed this and many days I have not had any. My justification is that drink is my treat and to me it is a bonus to get me through the day. A diet root beer or diet orange soda sure tastes good compared to the normal food on the diet.
I have tried to limit my sweeteners when I drink the diet drinks because I am not sure how that works exactly.
Hello. I know this is late and hope you're still reading this! How much watermelon a day were you allowed??
Please try to stay off the yukky things we are addicted to, like artificial sweeteners. They have now been associated with Alzheimers disease. If you could try to get off the sugar kick altogether, that would be great. Even artificial sugar affects our brain into wanting 'sweetness' in any way, and if you kick the habit you'll feel great, i PROMISE you! Distract yourself, get a diet buddy, read' Pure White and Deadly' about sugar, and don't substitute a natural product (sugar) which affects your insulin, with an unnatural chemical one, which is worse! Even stevia can have side effects. You are better off trying to 'detox' from the flavour. Hard, but not impossible! Go girl!
