I heard Dexatrim as an appetite supressent can be harmfull. Does anyone know of other safer and effective OTC appetite supressents out there? There are lots of fad herbal remedies on the internet, so its hard to tell the good from the hoaxes. I would appreciate any recommendations from experience. Thanks

I like what others have said about exercise and eating less and getting used to it. I`ve also read that soup (no NOT the soup diet) is filling but can be low in calories. Same idea as drinking water.
Keeping track of everything you eat also helps. You wouldn`t believe how much you eat in a day. There are lots of things that you "forget" about even as you`re eating them. Logging it all is a real eye opener.

I would like to take you seriously, but to do so would affront your intelligence.

research done on this, and it found that drinking water with or before meal does not affect the amount you consume at the meal, but starting the meal with a broth-based soup does.
Eating liberal amounts of food that has a high water content has much the same effect - you feel more satisfied on fewer calories. Thus, eat lots of fruit and vegetables, low-fat yogurt and oatmeal/porridge. They have a low energy density, and will thus tend to displace foods such as chocolate, cakes, icecream etc.
We are all different, but IMO it is easier to manipulate your diet by adding things than telling yourself you mustn`t eat certain other things. The result of adding the low energy-dense foods is that you automatically eat less of the other stuff, without telling yourself you have to do it.

have no clue when to stop, so maybe adding the other stuff for them wouldn`t be such a good idea.

started to do several years ago, and I`m still not perfect at. If you are habitually stuffing yourself to discomfort, then eating more fruit first is not going to make much difference. Anyone who is still at that stage is not going to benefit from any guidelines about what specifically to eat..... they need to get the basic hunger/fullness thing at least partly underway first.

sorry to barge into your conversation, but i have been using diet pills off and on since i was 14 (i am 24) overthe counter and prescription, and the one thing i have learned is they alwasy work great at first, but the weight loss bliss is over after about a month or so. not to mention, in the meantime, you are irritable and will have trouble sleeping. at least that is always the case for me. at one point i was taking 3 phentermine a day because the effect after awhile was the same. probably the best suggestion i can give, at least one that works to curve my giant appetite, is to drink LOTS of liquid. like right before breakfast i will drink a glass of non-fat milk real quick, wait like ten minutes, then when it is time to eat i am not that hungry.
